7 Ways to Write Stand-Out
Articles in a Competitive Niche

by Steve Shaw  |  Published in: Business/ECommerce

Editorial Note: What's New at GoArticles?

• In the next few weeks, GoArticles will be undergoing a complete SEO overhaul.
• Our article to video service is scheduled to launch by the end of September.
• September is also when we plan to launch a photo to caricature service. Convert
your author photo or any photo to a professionally drawn caricature and use it
   anyway you want.

Have you ever had the impression that your articles were drowning in a sea of similarly titled articles on similar topics?

When so many articles are competing for just a few readers' attention, how to do you position your articles at the cutting edge of the online world?

Use these 7 tips to write articles that are "one in a million" rather than "one of the millions".

1 - Be original. You may be in the habit of reading articles by other authors in your niche - that is fine, so long as you resist the urge to imitate their writing style or duplicate their content. If you see other authors writing about a particular topic over and over again, you must find a different way to approach the topic or else choose a topic that hasn't been covered. By all means, every article you write should be 100% unique.

2 - Have higher standards. Your articles can stand out by being of higher quality than the abundance of sub-par articles that are floating around the internet. Go the extra mile by having a friend proofread your article for grammar and spelling issues. A well-written article stands out from the crowd.

3 - Never stop learning. Do you think you know all you need to know to do your work? That may be true, but when you are submitting articles, there are perks to continuously expanding your knowledge on your topic. The more you learn and know, the more you can teach to others.

4 - Be creative. It doesn't matter if your particular topic has been covered a million and one times, there is still a new angle that you can take. Think about your favorite teacher in school, the one that made you love Math, Science, Greek, or English. What made the teacher stand out to you? Most likely it was the creativity and passion with which that teacher conveyed his or her knowledge. Many teachers can be teaching the same topic, but one can stand out if they are creative.

5 - Teach effectively. Are you worried that because there are tons of articles already on your particular topic that it's all been said and done? If a topic is popular on the internet, it is because there are many people who are interested in it. If the topic has been exhausted and a definitive answer has already been published, why are there still people searching for the answer? Think about it - no matter how many articles are on your general topic, there are still readers who are confused, who are searching, who are in need of an explanation that they can understand. Teach your topic better than those who have written about it previously, and your articles will have an edge.

6 - Look for overlooked topics. There may be tons of people writing about your niche, but there is no way that every last topic has been covered. Look for topics that remain unexplored. Remember that many people are looking for basic information on your topic. Many times it is the most obvious and basic topics that are overlooked.

7 - Write an article summary that attracts attention. The article summary is visible in search engine results listings and also on most article directories where your article is published. Write your summary carefully - use it as a marketing tool to lure readers into reading your article. Specifically, what will your article teach the reader? What benefits will the reader gain by reading your article?

Which of these tips will you use on your next article? Gradually work on incorporating all 7 tips and watch your articles jump off the screen and catch your target readers' attention.

5 Article Marketing Tips Every Writer Should Know

by Steve Shaw  |  Published in: Business/ECommerce

Editorial Note: Become a GoArticles Expert Author

• Submit 20 articles per day versus 10.
• Get your articles highlighted in the search results with an Expert Author icon.
• Only Expert Author articles appear on the GoArticles homepage under Recent
   Articles & Most Viewed articles.

Writing articles is a constant process of improving your writing style. Over the last 7 years of doing article marketing, my writing has improved tremendously as I've experimented and set my standards higher and higher.

I'd like to share the 5 article marketing tips that have helped my writing improve the most:

1 - Create a word count limit for your article. When you set a word count goal, it forces you to keep your focus. You'll find that you are writing much more efficiently.

2 - Say what you need to say as simply as possible. For those of us who like to elaborate and go off on tangents, this guideline can be a challenge, but definitely something to work towards!

3 - State the point of your article from the first sentence. Your reader will look at your title and the first sentence to decide whether he wants to read your article. You greatly increase the likelihood that the reader will peruse your full article if you can rope him in right at the beginning. Resist the urge to write a lengthy and complicated introduction. Get to the point quickly.

4 - Teach your readers. Your main purpose in writing articles is to provide helpful information to your target readers. If your article fails to do this, it will not be successful on any other level. Focus on teaching in your articles - forget about promoting your business, getting backlinks, and hyping products. Think of common questions that your readers have, and then write your articles as solutions to those questions.

5 - Do not ignore the concluding paragraph of your article - experiment with different strategies that will subtly draw your reader from your article body into your resource box.

Here are a few ideas:

• Give your readers a homework assignment, something that they should do as a result of reading your article. Ideally, every article you write should bring about some sort of action from the reader. If the article is helpful, it will aid the reader in doing something that he needs to do.

• Ask the reader a question at the end of your article. This helps engage the reader; it is an invitation to further dialogue with you. If you do not create some sort of enticement to take another step towards you after reading your article, the reader may just read the article and move on to the next.

Your conclusion is a wrap-up of what you have said in your article, and it can also be a bridge between your article and your resource box. Asking a question at the end of your article is a very subtle way of saying to the reader, "Let's continue this conversation outside of this article." The next thing the reader sees is your resource box which offers a method of contacting you - your website.

These are the 5 things that I've learned over the years that have helped me write more effectively and more efficiently. If you are a beginner and are struggling to produce articles, it is encouraging to know that it gets easier the more you do it. You don't have to write for years and years before getting better. Just apply a few of the article marketing tips I've listed here, and you will immediately improve.

Your homework:

Pick one of these 5 tips to focus on in your next article. Which one will you start with?

5 Ways to Get More
Publishers to Pick Up Your Articles

by Steve Shaw  |  Published in: Business/ECommerce

Editorial Note: Expert Author Update

Becoming a GoArticles Expert Author has its advantages:
• You can submit up to 20 articles per day versus 10.
• Your articles are highlighted in the search results with an Expert Author icon.
• Only Expert Author articles appear on the GoArticles homepage under Recent
   Articles & Most Viewed articles.

Are you looking for tricks for getting more publishers to pick up your articles for publication? Have you been looking at your article views and thinking, "What am I doing wrong?"

I've got 5 article marketing tips that will help you create articles that work at maximum efficiency for you:

Article Marketing Tip #1: Remember that the quality of your articles matters.

Each article that you write must be written to help your target readers. Your articles must be useful, easy to read, grammatically correct, and on the same general topic as your website.

Article Marketing Tip #2: Look back at the statistics (views, etc.) of your previous articles, and you will probably notice that some of your articles are more popular than others.

Why do some articles outperform others?

It could be the title. A good title is very specific, conveys exactly what the article is about, and is phrased in a way that gets a reader's attention. There are also different types of titles:

There's the "question title", the "Top Tips" title, the "How To" title, the "keyword rich" title, etc.

If you suspect that your title was exceptionally good on your most popular article, try to write another headline and accompanying article that is in a similar format. This takes some playing around, but the article title plays a huge role in the success of your article, so you will want to take the time to experiment.

Article Marketing Tip #3: Use long tail keyword phrases as your article topics and titles.

Your main keyword phrases are 2-3 words long.

A long tail keyword phrase is usually 3 or more words.

For example, your main keyword phrase may be 'hire electrician', and one of your long tail keyword phrases may be "How much does it cost to rewire a house?"

See, the long tail keyword phrase would already make a great title, and by your research you know that this is a popular phrase that people are typing into Google. By using long tail keyword phrases as your titles and article topics, you're creating content that people are already searching for.

Article Marketing Tip #4: Submit via an automatic article submission service.

When you submit automatically, your article is distributed to many publishers who then publish your article on their websites.

So, instead of submitting to one article directory and then waiting around for publishers to find your article on that one directory and republish it, you are taking a more proactive approach by directly submitting your article to hundreds of publishers with the press of a button.

This is the most effective way to do article marketing -- no more watching your stats on one lonely directory hoping that a publisher stumbles upon your article. When you use an automatic article submitter, you are getting many republications right off the bat -- now that's immediate gratification!

Article Marketing Tip #5: Be consistent in your article submissions.

One or two articles will not make your article marketing campaign successful -- you need to get some momentum going to see your best results.

You should be submitting articles every month as long as you have your website. If you're submitting automatically, 8 articles is a good number to submit on a monthly basis. If you're submitting by hand, you'll need to submit substantially more articles to see results.

The number 1 reason why article marketing fails is a lack of consistency. If you submit the correct number of articles each month over the long term, then you won't need to pin your hopes on the individual performance of each article. This is especially true if you are using an automatic article submitter.

No matter how long you've been article marketing, you never stop learning how to write better articles and execute a more effective article marketing campaign. Focus on implementing the 5 tips above, and you will give your articles the best chance possible of being republished!

How to Create an "Ah-Ha!" Article

by Steve Shaw  |  Published in: Business/ECommerce

If you ask your target readers what types of articles they would like you to write, I'm sure that they would all say they are looking for an article that will give them something that they need, offer a solution to a problem that they have, and give them information that would make their lives better.

No matter what your niche is, your target readers all want the same thing -- they want to read your article and say, "Ah-Ha! That's a great idea! I'm going to try what this article suggests."

Your goal as the author is to create that "Ah-Ha!" article.

But how in the world are you supposed to know what your target readers really need?

That's what we're covering in this article. Here are 5 tips for discovering what your readers really need:

1 - Do keyword research.

Some people think that the purpose of doing keyword research is to make their articles more appealing to the search engines. Actually, the search engines' main purpose is to provide results that are useful to their customers (who are also your customers), so what you're really after when doing keyword research is finding out what your target readers need.

What are they searching for when they type questions into Google?

How do they phrase their questions?

When looking for article topics that reflect what your target readers need, do research on your longer keyword phrases (long-tail phrases) that ask a question or are very specific.

For example, this long-tail keyword phrase would make an excellent article:

"How Much Does It Cost To Rewire A House?"

Editorial Note: Article to Video Conversion Service

GoArticles will be launching a new article to video conversion service in September. If you're interested in converting your articles to videos, you can add yourself to our waiting list by dropping us a note at: info@goarticles.com

2 - Look at your own website statistics and see what people are typing into Google to reach your website.

Your website statistics program should tell you what search terms people typed into Google, etc., in order to reach your site. Sometimes these search terms are enlightening. You may find that people are arriving at your site looking for specific information that you do not currently provide. Why not write articles and website content that satisfy what people are looking for on your site?

3 - What questions do your customers routinely ask you?

Sometimes when you are the owner of a business, your expertise can cause you to forget about some of the more elementary aspects of your niche. Look for customer questions that come up repeatedly. If two or three people asked the same question, it's likely there are many others wondering the same thing.

Also, look for interesting questions that make YOU think and dig down deep. You can use each of these compelling questions as an article topic.

4 - If you have a blog, look at your reader comments for areas of confusion that could be explained in an article. If you don't have a blog, you can still employ this technique by studying the comments on blogs in your niche.

5 - What challenges have you faced in your field, and what have you learned as a result?

If you're active in your niche, you will have encountered perplexing situations and circumstances when you were not quite sure what to do or how to do something. As an expert in your niche, you then set about to find a solution to your challenge. Why not share your lessons with others? Let your target readers benefit from your own personal experiences and experiments in forging new ground.

Which of these tips will you use in writing your next article?

Remember, your goal is always to make your readers think, solve one of their problems, and hopefully make them say, "Ah-Ha!"
