| Article Marketing Myths and Factsby John Tucker (c) 2010 | Published in: Business/ECommerce
In the author bio section at the bottom is some info about you and links to your website. It is suggested that you put in one link to your main page and one to an interior page that fits the article you are writing. If your article is submitted to websites that take article submissions and that offer free content to webmasters, then webmasters can choose to repost your article on their websites, and the links in the author bio section become links from their websites to your website. Now lets go on to the myths and facts about article marketing. MYTH: Article marketing doesn't really help you all that much. FACT: Article Marketing can help you improve your link popularity and be a source of some of the most targeted traffic you can get. MYTH: Reprinted Articles only get indexed as supplemental pages, therefore it doesn't help enough to make it worthwhile. FACT: Depending on where the article gets submitted to, the article itself can get a top 10 listing in major search engines and not as a supplemental page. MYTH: Submitting your article everywhere creates duplicate content and the search engines will punish or discount those pages as a result. FACT: If search engines punished duplicate content in the way that myth suggests, then all RSS feeds that cause a post in a blog to be reproduced or published would be discounted and they are not. The New York Times articles and CNN stuff is blasted all over the web and are not punished or discounted. Duplicate content is two webpages that are around 70% similar, not two webpages that have similar text on them. MYTH: The only way article marketing works is if you write an article and then submit it to thousands of article submission websites. FACT: There is more than one way to make article marketing work for you. The way mentioned above works okay if you are looking to get a lot of links back to your website whether they are related or not and can be effective if you currently have very little or no link popularity at all. Another way is to hand submit your article to article submission websites that only accept articles related to your topic. This is more difficult, but the links help you more just through the submissions and it's more likely that the websites that pick up and repost your article will be also related to your topic which can help you with better links and targeted traffic. | Article Marketing Strategy: |
If you're going to do this, be sure to publish the content on your site first, then re-write the post into an article so that the content on your site remains unique. For SEO purposes, it is best if the content on your website cannot be found elsewhere.
2 - Podcast.
After an article is published, it becomes a podcast. I don't turn every article into a podcast episode -- I just choose 4 or 5 articles a month for this purpose.
3 - Video.
The next thing I do is use the article and the podcast to create a video of the article. Then I upload the videos to YouTube.
4 - E-book.
When I feel the need, I create e-books out of my articles focused on a specific topic in my niche.
Let's say I notice that local business owners are really in need of some article marketing coaching. I gather my articles about local business article marketing, and I assemble them into an e-book.
Some tweaking is necessary to make the book flow from chapter to chapter, and I usually have to add an introduction and a conclusion to the book, as well as fleshing out some areas that need more in depth explanation. The e-book pretty much writes itself, though, because I re-use the content from my articles.
5- Squidoo lens.
If you haven't used Squidoo, I encourage you to play around with it. Pages on Squidoo have an easier time of ranking highly in search engines, so it can be a worthwhile investment to create a quality web page there.
The web pages on Squidoo are called 'lenses'. Don't let that confuse you -- a lens is just a web page. Organize your articles by topic, and then create one or more lenses based off of the articles.
It's rather fun because you can add pictures, and there are tools that let you create surveys for your readers. I created a lens like this, and it very quickly got a decent search engine ranking of its own and a decent PageRank. I didn't even really market the lens -- I just shared it with my list and things took off from there. A little work for a big return.
These are the ways that I reuse/recycle my articles. Don't feel like you need to do all of these extra things right away or ever -- just pick out one to focus on. You will experience an immense feeling of satisfaction to see your hard work being reused in more than one format.
Which of these ideas appeals to you? When will you set aside some time to get started?

Here's the trick:
Do the opposite. Instead of finishing by trying to force your keywords into your already constructed article and title, use your keywords as a beginning point. Take your keyword phrase and brainstorm some natural sounding titles that incorporate that phrase. Then, write an article to satisfy the title.
Let's look at some examples of keyword rich titles (listing the keyphrase first, then the titles):
*Healthy Eating Habits*
10 Healthy Eating Habits That Will Help You Live Longer

*Short Track Speed Skating*
The History of Short Track Speed Skating
Short Track Speed Skating: A Beginner's Guide
Each one of these titles makes sense, is comprehensible to a human reader, and is engaging enough to catch the attention of a reader interested in any of these topics. These titles are keyword rich, while still appealing to human readers. This is what you're going for!
Notice that each of these phrases is a long tail keyword phrase (3-5 words long). When you are doing your keyword research you will come up with a list of long tail keyphrases and a list of 2 word keyword phrases. The long tail phrases are to be used in generating article titles and topics. The shorter main phrases are to be used in your resource boxes.
Does It Matter Where I Put My Keyphrase In My Title?
You may notice that some of the sample titles have the targeted phrase at the beginning of the title. If you can manage it in a natural sounding way, try to include the phrase at the beginning of the title. If not, don't worry about it.
The point is not to use a strict title formula each time. Your goal is to generate quality titles that will attract readers, convey what the article is about, and also incorporate the keyphrase in a natural sounding way. If you come up with a great title that has the keyword phrase at the middle or the end of the title, then that's fine. Focus on creating titles that are interesting and appealing to your target readers.
After you have gone through your list of long tail keywords and generated a few titles for each, then pick a title and write an article for it.
You see, this is the reverse of what many people do -- take your key phrase, then brainstorm titles, then write an article that fulfills what the title promises. The result is a natural looking title and article. This is the type of article and title that readers, publishers, and search engines will love.
